How Robot Mercantile intends to organize the purchase and operation of Cybercab vehicles for fleet use in the Carolinas, and what we want to know from people who want to own them.

Vehicles are the part everyone can see

Ask anyone what a Robotaxi network needs and they will say cars. They are right, and they are also describing the easiest part to buy and the hardest part to buy well. A vehicle bought without a place to charge it, a plan to keep it clean, and a metro that actually needs it is a depreciating asset sitting in a lot. A vehicle bought as one of a coordinated fleet, into a metro with hubs ready and demand mapped, is a revenue-producing machine from its first week.

This page is about the second kind of purchase. It describes what we intend to do, what we know and do not know about how Cybercab vehicles will be sold, and what we would like to hear from people who want to own them.

What we know today

Tesla launched Cybercab service in Austin on September 3, 2026. Reporting on the launch describes a two-seat vehicle with no steering wheel or pedals, built to run only on Tesla's autonomy software, with rides offered through the Robotaxi app. Tesla has said it expects about 2,500 robotaxis in 2026, with production at Giga Texas.

Tesla has not published pricing or delivery timelines for fleet customers. Earlier public statements from the company put a target price in the range of $25,000 to $30,000 per vehicle; that is a stated target, not a fleet price list. We treat every one of these facts as subject to change and we do not build plans on numbers Tesla has not committed to.

The industry is confirming the thesis

In August 2026, Moove raised $250 million at a $2.1 billion valuation (Mubadala led; Woven Capital and Ion Pacific co-led) to scale what its press release calls "the global infrastructure layer for autonomous mobility". Moove is a third-party fleet operator for Waymo in Phoenix, Miami, and Las Vegas, plans to buy robotaxis with debt financing, and is building depots it calls "Nests" where third-party autonomous fleets are charged, serviced, and maintained. As its co-CEO put it to TechCrunch, AV developers, vehicle makers, and marketplaces do not want to "own the metal".

Those are the questions we are answering for the Carolinas. Moove proves the category and the capital structure, equity for the operator and debt for the vehicles, and it shows the bar: they earned Waymo by running 42,000 human-driven vehicles first.

What we intend to do

Our intent is to be first in line in the Carolinas when Cybercab vehicles are made available for fleet use, and to put them to work on day one because the ground layer is already built. Concretely:

  • Aggregate demand. Collect the names, quantities, and metros of people who want to own Cybercab vehicles for fleet use, so that when a purchasing channel opens we can approach it as one organized buyer rather than a hundred individual inquiries.
  • Operate as one fleet. Whether a vehicle is owned by Robot Mercantile, by an investor, or by a partner, we intend to operate the vehicles as a single network: shared hubs, shared cleaning and service, shared demand across the metro. A fleet of one is a hobby. A fleet of hundreds is a business.
  • Finance the fleet. Vehicle purchasing at scale is a capital question before it is a logistics question. We intend to work with investors and lenders on structures that let people participate in vehicle ownership without each buying and managing cars themselves. Nothing on this page is an offer of any such structure; it is a description of the work.
  • Sequence by metro. Charlotte, Raleigh, and Wilmington have different demand patterns and different hub maps. Vehicles go where the hubs are ready, not where the order forms are longest.

Ways to participate

We expect interest to come from three kinds of people, and we would like to hear from all of them.

Owners who want to operate with us. You want to own vehicles as an asset and have them run inside a professionally operated network, with the hubs, cleaning, service, and rider demand handled. Tell us how many vehicles you have in mind and which metro.

Owners who want to operate themselves. You intend to run your own vehicles and want access to hubs, service capacity, and a local network that makes that practical. Tell us what you already have.

Investors who want exposure without owning cars. You want to participate in the economics of a fleet in the Carolinas. That conversation belongs on the investor path of our interest form, and it happens under the rules described in the notice at the bottom of this page.

What we would like to know from you

You do not need to have decided anything. A few sentences are enough.

  • Which of the three roles above fits you.
  • How many vehicles you are thinking about, even as a range.
  • Which metro, or metros, you care about.
  • Whether you already operate vehicles, property, or service capacity.
  • How you would expect to finance a purchase: your own capital, a lender, or a structure we help organize.

What we do not know yet

When Cybercab vehicles will be sold to fleet operators. On what terms, at what price, and with what software licensing. Whether Tesla will sell to independent operators at all, or in what order. How North Carolina will regulate driverless service. We say this plainly because the people we want to work with will ask, and because the work above is worth doing under any of the answers: an organized buyer with hubs ready is in a better position than an unorganized one under every scenario.
