Cybercab is on the road in Austin. Here is what that means for the Carolinas.

On September 3, 2026, Tesla held its Cybercab launch event in downtown Austin. Reporting on the event describes a two-seat vehicle with no steering wheel or pedals, built to run only on Tesla's Full Self-Driving software, with Cybercab rides added to the Robotaxi app for Austin riders in the days after the event. Unsupervised Robotaxi rides are reported to be open in Austin, Dallas, and Houston, and in Miami, Orlando, and Tampa; the San Francisco Bay Area runs with a safety driver under California rules.

Two other details from the coverage matter for anyone thinking about fleets. Tesla has said it expects to roll out about 2,500 robotaxis in 2026, with Cybercab production under way at Giga Texas. And Tesla has not published pricing or delivery timelines for fleet customers.

What we take from it

The service is real and it is expanding city by city. Every metro that has come online so far shares the same ingredients: vehicles, places to charge and service them, and enough local riders to keep them moving. None of those ingredients appears on its own. Someone organizes them.

That is what Robot Mercantile is doing for the Carolinas. We are an independent company, and we have no relationship with Tesla today. What we do have is a plan to be first in line when Cybercab vehicles are made available for fleet use. We are lining up capital, identifying hub locations, and assembling a board of advisors who know fleet operations, charging and real estate, municipal permitting, insurance, and capital markets. None of that is finished. All of it is under way. Our first metros are Charlotte, Raleigh, and Wilmington.

What we offer

We are building out three areas.

Cybercab fleet vehicle purchasing. If you are interested in owning or purchasing Cybercab vehicles for fleet use, tell us about yourself. We are collecting interest so we can follow up as purchasing opportunities take shape.

Mobility hubs and infrastructure. A Robotaxi network needs places for vehicles to charge, park, be cleaned, and be serviced. If you own or operate property, charging, or service capacity, we would like to hear from you.

Event collaboration. Events are a natural place to introduce people to Robotaxi service. If you organize events or venues and want to explore working together, use the form and describe what you have in mind.
